Body Found in the Ocean is 18 Year Old Lobsterman Tylar Michaud

A body found in the ocean near Addison is confirmed to be an 18-year-old lobsterman, missing since last month.

Tylar Michaud has been missing since his unmanned lobster boat was found near Petit Manan on July 21st. The young lobsterman had gone out to haul and set his traps, but never made it back home. An extensive search was launched but authorities weren't able to find any sign of him.

On Monday, a Jonesport lobsterman came across a body in the ocean off the coast of Addison. The body was found about seven miles from where Tylar went missing. Authorities transported the body to the Chief Medical Examiner. On Friday, the Maine Department of Marine Resources confirmed that the body found off the coast of Addison is Tylar Michaud.

Maine DMR Commissioner Patrick Keliher thanked the community for its help in the days following Michaud's disappearance.

I'm grateful for the tremendous outpouring of support that followed Tylar's disappearance. The efforts of all who joined in the difficult search were unprecedented. It speaks volumes about the profound impact a loss like this can have.

He added that the thoughts and prayers of all those involved go out to Tylar's family and friends.

Tylar lived in the Washington County town of Steuben. A new graduate of Sumner Memorial High School, he had plans to go to Maine Maritime Academy in the Fall. Earlier this week, a wreath was laid at sea in a touching memorial service.
